Andrews Architects was given the task of designing a new office for Ohio Ophthalmology. The clinic occupies approximately 2,100 square feet on the second floor of the multi-tenant medical office building in Gahanna, Ohio.
Working within a small space, the goal was to create a medical clinic with a procedure room, nurses’ station, exam rooms, and waiting area. To accomplish this goal, exam rooms were placed along the perimeter to allow maximum natural lighting, giving the feeling of a larger space. During examinations, a low level of light in the exam rooms is desired. To achieve this, black-out shades were installed on the windows. However, the natural light is welcoming when the procedure is not being conducted.
The physician envisioned a space that is welcoming for the patients with a modern feel. Andrews Architects was able to realize their vision by incorporating clean lines and lighter colors for the walls and woodwork. Carpeting was used for the patient circulation areas to cut down on foot traffic noise for an overall quieter space also adding a layer of comfort for the patient experience.
