With the growing population of central Ohio, Mid-Ohio Pediatrics and Adolescents was outgrowing their existing clinical space. The decision was made to expand and relocate their office to provide quality pediatric care.
Even though the existing clinic is considered a single office, it was located on two different floors and operated as two different offices. This caused a duplication of space and a reduction of communication between the two floors. The new clinic was able to consolidate the duplicate spaces, improve the workflow efficiencies, and communication among the physicians and staff.
Early on, during the design process, one of the concerns was the clinic will feel too large and not personal. Andrews Architects was able to overcome these concerns by creating four exam pods. Each pod contains six exam rooms, vitals, and a nurse station. A primary color was assigned to each pod, allowing easy identification and wayfinding. The exam pods create a feeling of a smaller and personal clinic for the parents, their children, and staff.
All of the exam rooms and key staff spaces like physician offices and the breakroom, are located along the perimeter of the building. This allows the spaces to take advantage of the windows, bringing in plenty of natural light.
