In an effort to provide accessible healthcare to the community, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC) and OSU Physicians, Inc. formed a partnership for a comprehensive outpatient care center in Gahanna, Ohio. A vacant “big box” retail center was selected which required exterior building modifications and the addition of a patient drop-off canopy. Interior reconfigurations included waiting areas, exam and procedure rooms, and other support spaces.
The facility offers multiple service lines under one roof including primary care, ophthalmology, obstetrics and gynecology, neurology, cardiology and physical therapy. A comprehensive imaging department with X-ray, mammography, ultrasound, bone density, MR and CT scan equipment supports all the clinics.
Some of the challenges included creating sound privacy for the exam rooms when the roof deck was over 20 feet high and updating the mechanical and electrical systems to meet the requirements for medical offices.
Andrews Architects worked with multiple OSUMC stakeholders including administration, physicians and departments to develop uniform programming standards and branding.
