The Village of St. Edward and DeHoff Development are partnering to build a senior living development on the city’s northwest end.

The project is being considered for a 10-acre parcel at the end of Fortuna Avenue next to the Green soccer fields. The area is south of E. Turkeyfoot Road and east of Arlington Avenue.

It’s the newest of three senior living developments proposed for Green. CAM Inc. has plans to build the Gables of Green, an assisted living and memory care facility in the Heritage Crossings development near Massillon and Graybill Roads. John Warmus and Boettler Farm Ltd. have proposed a multi-unit development called Brier Creek along Boettler Road.

Village of St. Edward hopes to begin construction of its facility next spring and and open in 2018, according to an announcement issued Tuesday. Village of St. Edward and DeHoff representative have met with Green planning officials but still are developing plans.

The project is in the preliminary stages, said Annette Walters, director of marketing and admissions for Village of St. Edward.

Plans call for the Village of St. Edward in Green to offer independent living, assisted living and memory car living arrangements and services. Similar services are offered at Village of St. Edward facilities in Fairlawn and a facility being built in Wadsworth.

Village of St. Edward opened in 1964 and is a continuing care retirement center. It was founded by the Diocese of Cleveland and the Sisters of St. Dominic of Akron. The goal is to provide a resident’s and patient’s “spiritual, physical and psychosocial needs,” according to the facility. Additionally, residents and their families never are asked relocate if health care or finances change.

Wayne Wiethe, Green’s planning director, said no plans have been submitted for the property Village of St. Edward and DeHoff hope to develop. Existing zoning allows for most of the facilities being considered, Wiethe anticipates the developers will file a planned development district.

Road improvements will be needed along Fortuna, which currently is a cul-de-sac past the soccer fields, Wiethe said. It’s possible a road will be extended from the development to Arlington Road.
